The artwork is signed in the bottom left hand corner as follows: Hall Diteman - 1973. Hall Drake Diteman (June 29, 1925 – January 16, 2009) was an American painter best known for landscapes and still life, who lived and worked for much of his life in Montana. He was born in Portland, Oregon, but after his family moved, he attended high school in Billings, Montana, graduating in 1943. Diteman pursued higher education at several institutions: Northwestern University in Illinois, Pomona College in California (where he earned his bachelor’s degree), and Yale Divinity School in Connecticut. In 1955 he spent some time in Paris studying the classical painters whose works are housed in the Louvre, which influenced his style. A notable recognition came in 1975, when Franklin Mint selected him as one of eight artists nationwide to be represented in their “America the Beautiful” print editions for the Bicentennial. Diteman’s work has been shown in museums and galleries across the U.S., including the Smithsonian, the R.W. Norton Museum in Louisiana, and auction houses like Sotheby Parke Bernet in New York. He passed away at his home in Billings, Montana, leaving behind a legacy of regionally-inspired work that continues to be collected and appreciated, especially for his contributions to Montana’s artistic heritage. The condition of this oil on canvas is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage to the artwork and only slight wear to the frame consistent with age but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this framed artwork is 37 1/8" x 31 1/4" and the visible artwork measures 29 1/2" x 23 1/2". The collective weight of this framed painting is 11lb 10oz.
