For your consideration is this beautiful "Made in France" copper stock pot with lid. The stock pot dates to the first decades of the 20th Century before cookware production was mechanized. Before mechanization, the craftsmen would hammer the copper into the desired shape; when the item was smoothed out it retained the hammer marks, giving it a kaleidoscope-like reflection. Hand hammering took great skill and many years of practice. With mechanization the copper is simply rolled into thin sheets, losing the kaleidoscope reflection and becoming thinner. This stock pot has two brass handles with cast iron rivets, a copper lid with brass handle and tin lining. The bottom of the stock pot is imprinted "Made in France" and "Bazar Francais/ 666". Bazar Francais was the name of a high end specialty French kitchen and tableware store in New York. Charles R. Ruegger had been selling high end kitchen items under the name Bazar Francais since around 1895; in 1929, he opened his new store at 666 6th Avenue--hence the imprint on the pot. The stock pot measures 8 3/4" in diameter and is 10 3/4" tall. It is in excellent condition with a beautiful shiny finish.
