Featured in this lot is a Hand-knotted Persian Kashan Wool Rug, circa 1960-1970s. The dense knotting with Persian knots creates carpets that last long which owners will enjoy for a long time. Typically Kashan rugs are woven with a cotton base and a woolen pile. The majority of Kashan rugs are dyed red colours with blue tones. This Kashan rug is unique in that the medium Persian blue central medallion sits against an emerald green background with a champagne colour as background for the balance of the rug. Geometric and floral designs are coloured in soft blue and gold hues. Since the late nineteenth century, most Kashan rugs are made of wool, although their wool is sometimes known for its exceptional, silk-like softness under the name Motashem. The ‘domestic’ production system in Kashan is also unusual. It is not arranged around large factory workshops employing male weavers, but rather in private homes, where the rugs are woven by women. This Kashan rug is in very nice condition with little wear, a wonderful, tight weave and creamy ivory coloured fringe at each end. Measures 48"W x 80"L
