Featured in this lot is this hand painted sculpture of an older man fishing, done by John Aynsley in 1984, presented by Aynsley MasterCraft in England. Aynsley China Ltd was formed in 1775 by John Aynsley in Lane End, Longton, Staffordshire. In 1861, his grandson John Aynsley erected the famous Portland Works on Sutherland Road in Longton, Staffordshire. The company's prosperity made it an attractive acquisition. Spode made a bid in June 1970, which Denbyware outbid in July. Following discussions with Waterford Glass, a £1 million proposal was agreed upon. Waterford acquired John Aynsley and Sons in 1970, renaming it Aynsley China Ltd. Waterford sold the company in 1987 to focus the group's fine china sales on the global Wedgwood brand. This sculpture shows an older man fishing on the bank. He is messing with his fishing line as he gazes into the distance towards the viewer. It is marked on the back reading, "Aynsley © 1984" and features a sticker on the bottom reading, "Aynsley / England / MasterCraft Hand Painted". It shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 4 1/8" L x 6 1/4" W x 5 3/4" H and weighs 14 ounces.
