The lot features an original Pawnee Sac and Fox silver morning star large pin brooch by Harry L. Caesar (Pawnee). Harry L. Caesar is a well collected metalsmith, and relative to Julius Caesar and Bruce Caesar. His work is attributed as carrying the traditional Southern Plains metalwork into the 20th Century. The piece shows a nice medium to large size with cutout design showing a five-point morning star at the center with punch dot and diamond pattern with roll engraving. The back is hand signed “by Harry L. Caesar “1977” C” and the museum collection inventory code of 03.01.87. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery. Good overall condition with expected wear from age, pin back is missing. Measures overall 3” diameter.
