For auction in this lot is a Presidential land grant, issued to John D. Bock of Helena, Montana Territory, in the year of 1876 - During the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant. In June 1832, the commissioner of the general land office wrote to Congress that there were more than 10,500 completed land patents waiting the signature of President Andrew Jackson. Congress passed a law in March 1833 to relieve this burden, authorizing the President to appoint a special secretary to sign land patentsin essence to legally forge the Presidentó»s signature. Overall, this awesome piece of Montana history shows very-good condition for age, it does have subtle creasing, and rolls up when not held down, or framed. The fine piece of ephemera does not include the brass blocks used in the photos. The document measures 10" x 16".
