Offered in this lot is a Rare Helena Daily Independent Bound Newspaper Hardcover Book from July 1, 1918 to September 30, 1918, published in Helena, Montana. Amazing chronicles of Montana life during the United States involvement in World I, the newspapers also feature international news stories about the war effort, war bond drives, national political debate about the war. Local stories include agricultural news, union and labor strifes, sports, entertainment, regular local advertising and society columns. Noteworthy is the lack of mention regarding the 1918 "Spanish Flu" outbreak, which affected Montana very severely with one percent of the population dying from its effects. This hardcover newspaper book is in amazingly fine condition considering its age. The gold gilt stylized leather bound front, rear and spine covers are intact, scuffing is very noticeable, spine is relatively still tight. Age tanning and foxing throughout the intact pages with mostly minimal random tearing on some pages. No other obvious marring noted. Book measures 17.5"W x 23"L x 1.25"D
