Featured in this lot is this 1890s, Knights Templar sword, crafted by Henderson-Ames Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The blade is engraved on the ricasso with the company's name reading, "Henderson-Ames Co. / Kalamazoo / Michigan" and is stamped below that lower on the ricasso reading, "Germany". It shows a brass guard and pommel with the pommel in the shape of a knights head wearing a helmet. The guard shows a brass construction with triangle designs and decorative motifs. The handle shows a scrimshaw ivory construction inscribed with a cross and medal symbol, while the backside shows script writing reading, "LST". Connected from the pommel to one side of the guard are two stands of brass chain. The blade shows light engravings of floral motifs on both sides, with one side of the blade showing crusade images and the other side of the blade showing an engraved name reading, "Theo A. Smith". The scabbard of the blade shows a metal and brass construction with the name, "Theo A. Smith" engraved again on the metal section. The brass sections show engraved designs on the backside and more crusade images on the front. Near the guard on the scabbard is a red enamel cross encased in brass. It shows good condition overall with wear present from its age, but no major signs of damage is noted. A crack is present on one side of the bone handle. From the top of the guard to the bottom of the pommel it measures 7 1/8" L, with the width of the guard being 5 3/8". The blade measures 29 1/4" L x 7/8" W. The entire length of the sword is 36 3/8" (scabbard off). With the scabbard on it measures 37 1/2" L. It has a total weight of 2 pounds and 12 ounces.
