Included in this lot is a Persian Heriz Serapi Hand-knotted Wool Runner Rug. The rug features a fine detailed design, bright colours, and a tight weave. The Heriz rug is one of the most well-known styles of Persian rugs, known for its unique styles and patterns. Serapis, for example, have been considered the finest grade of Heriz since the beginning of the 20th century. The rugs are produced in the city of Heriz, which is located in northwestern Iran near the city of Tabriz. Traces of copper in the drinking water of sheep produces high quality wool that is far more resilient than wool from other areas. The Heris Carpet is the only carpet in the world where stories of the Old times are woven.
The piece shows geometric floral patterns along the border, with the centre of the rug showing large geometric medallions. The rug is predominately a deep red colour with black, dark blue, cream white, olive green, pink, and greyish blue throughout the piece. The rug shows good condition overall, with little to no wear.
