Featured in this lot is this Heriz Serapi Persian hand knotted wool runner. The rug features a fine detailed design, bright colors, and a tight weave. The Heriz rug is one of the most well-known styles of Persian rugs, known for its unique styles and patterns. Serapis, for example, have been considered the finest grade of Heriz since the beginning of the 20th century. The rugs are produced in the city of Heriz, which is located in northwestern Iran near the city of Tabriz. Traces of copper in the drinking water of sheep produces high quality wool that is far more resilient than wool from other areas. The Heris Carpet is the only carpet in the world where stories of the Old times are woven. The piece shows geometric floral patterns along the border, with the centre of the rug showing large geometric medallions. The rug is predominately a deep red color with black, navy blue, saffron yellow, olive green, and royal blue throughout the piece. The condition of this Persian rug is well preserved with some slight wear to the runner but otherwise shows a well preserved overall condition.
