Featured in this lot is a first edition, 1853 History of the City of New York by David Valentine. The text is a significant historical record that offers an in-depth look at the early history and development of New York City. Valentine was an important figure in New York's historical community, and his work remains a valuable resource for understanding the city's past. David Thomas Valentine (1801-1869) was a historian and the Clerk of the Common Council of New York City. He is best known for compiling and editing the Manual of the Corporation of the City of New York, an annual publication that provided extensive historical, statistical, and descriptive information about New York City. The condition of the book shows wear to the outside cover and the spine with fading to the gilt adorning the outside of the book and shows browning to the pages consistent with the age of the book. The measurements of this book are 6 1/4" x 9' x 1 1/2". The collective weight of this book is 1lb 12oz.*
