Featured in this lot is this Hopewell Culture butterfly bannerstone and celt circa 20th century. There are two bannerstones and a celt in this collection that is wonderfully and professionally crafted from polished speckled granite, catlinite, and soapstone. The two bannerstones show different design one with a butterfly design and the other with a squared and sharp angle to the bannerstone with central cylindrical holes. The celt shows a ground handle and polished bladed tip almost like a chisel to the bottom of the celt. The butterfly bannerstone is marked 'MO'. The condition of this pair of banner stones and celt is preserved with a repair to the rounded bannerstone and some chips to the edge of the celt but otherwise is preserved. The measurements of the bannerstones is 2 3/8" x 3 5/8" x 7/8" and 3 1/8" x 4 3/4" x 1 1/4" and the celt measures 5 1/8" x 1 7/8" x 1 1/4". The collective weight of the bannerstones and celt is 1lb 4oz.
