Happily presented for your bidding delight is Howard Pyle's Book of the American Spirit 1923. This is a first edition copy of Howard Pyle's Book of the American Spirit The Romance of American History Pictured by Howard Pyle. Compiled by Merle Johnson: with Narrative Descriptive Text from Original Sources Edited by Francis J. Dowd, published by Harper & Brothers, Publishers, New York & London est. 1817. First edition, first issue with B-X on the copyright page. 346 pages with Twenty-two full-page color illustrations and 180 black and white illustrations throughout. Publisher's black cloth over tan boards, front cover with color illustration laid-on and lettered in dark brown, spine lettered in gilt. This copy is in good condition with minor wear on binding, and a 1/4" small tear half way down on page (xi). Howard Pyle is a well known American illustrator known for his contributions to American youth illustrations. This First edition copy measures 12.5" x 9.5". This is a great addition for anyone looking to add to the American spirit of their library.
