Featured in this lot is a giclee on canvas called "Found on the Field of Battle" from American artist, Howard Terpning, released in 2009 and originally painted in 2007. The artwork is a wonderfully and professionally crafted giclee on a canvas construction. The piece features a scene of three Native American men going through the spoils of the fallen in battle including a cavalry hat, a dispatch case, and a bugle. The artwork is signed by the artist in in the bottom right hand corner and is dated 2007 underneath and is numbered 68/300. Howard Terpning (born November 5, 1927) is an American painter and illustrator best known for his paintings of Native Americans. Around 1974, Terpning began to tire of commercial work and decided to follow his interest in the American West and Plains Indians. He began to transition into fine art by creating paintings and selling them in Western galleries. The first paintings sold for $2,000 - $2,500. After three years he left Connecticut and the commercial art world and moved to Arizona to devote himself entirely to painting the American West. Within two years he was elected to both the National Academy of Western Art and the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA). In the 22 years he was an active member of the CAA, Terpning earned 42 awards for his work. In 1985, Terpning was honored with a retrospective at the Gilcrease Museum with 38 original works on display. His work has also been displayed in Beijing, China, and the Grand Palais in Paris.
