Featured in this lot is this Hudson Bay five point wool trade blanket. The blanket shows a beautifully crafted wool construction to this blanket all done in a iconic Hudson Bay design with five points along the side of the blanket. The number of points indicates the size of the blanket. Although the points did not originally assign a value to the blanket, over time, traders used the points to determine how many beaver pelts it could be traded for. At first, one point equaled one beaver pelt. By the early 1700s, the blankets represented more than half of the items traded for animal hides. The condition of this blanket is good with no obvious signs of damage and in good overall condition. The measurements of this blanket are 76" x 58".
