Featured in this lot is an instruction book, poster advertisement and service manual presented by the Hudson Motor Car Company in Detroit, Michigan circa 1926-1947. From 1909 until 1954, the Hudson Motor Car Company was a well-known American automaker. Joseph L. Hudson and seven business associates, including Roy D. Chapin, founded the Detroit, Michigan-based company. The company invented a number of automotive technologies in the 1920s, most famously the "Super Six" engine, which was known for its powerful and smooth performance. In the late 1940s, Hudson also unveiled the "step-down" design, which made the vehicles more maneuverable and stable to drive thanks to a lower center of gravity. With its reasonably priced and fashionable vehicles, Hudson enjoyed great success in the 1930s car market, which helped the company become well-known in the sector. Hudson's success persisted into the 1940s, but after World War II, bigger manufacturers became more competitive, which decreased sales. American Motors Corporation (AMC) was formed in 1954 through the merger of the Hudson Motor Car Company and the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation. The goal of the merger was to forge a more formidable organization that could more effectively take on the "Big Three" American automakers, Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors. The Hudson Motor Car Company ceased operations the same year that the final Hudson-badged cars were produced. The first in this collection is titled, "Instruction Book Hudson Super-Six" and was published in 1929. The book gives extensive write-ups on how to care for and repair your vehicle including illustrations and photos. The second item in this lot is a poster board from 1947 advertising various Hudson parts and accessories. The front shows a three month calendar and shows various items Hudson is selling a the top. The back of the advertisement gives yearly model and identifying model numbers for various parts on different cars. The third in this lot is titled, "Hudson-Essex Service Manual" published in 1926. The service manual gives extensive information on how to care for, repair and keep your car running. It shows numerous illustrations and photos of parts and sections of the car throughout. The manual also shows photos of tools you might need to do certain repairs on your cars. The pieces in this lot show good condition overall with some wear present from their age and use over the years. The smaller manual shows the most wear with fused pages and tears present. The pieces measure from 10 7/8" L x 8 3/8" W x 1/2" D to 9" L x 6" W and has a collective weight of 1 pound and 10 ounces.
