Featured in this lot is this Hudson's Bay four point wool trade blanket. The blanket shows a beautifully crafted wool construction, all done in a iconic Hudson's Bay design with four points along the side of the blanket. The number of points indicates the size of the blanket. Although the points did not originally assign a value to the blanket, over time, traders used the points to determine how many beaver pelts it could be traded for. At first, one point equaled one beaver pelt. By the early 1700s, the blankets represented more than half of the items traded for animal hides. The blanket shows colors of black, yellow, red and green on both sides with the four black point lines towards the center of the blanket. The tag sits in the bottom corner. The blanket shows good condition with some slight staining noted and fading to the green color but no obvious signs of damage are present. The blanket measures 100" L x 74 3/4" W.
