For your consideration is a 1904 first edition of "In The Closed Room" by Frances Hodgson Burnett, illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith and published by McClure, Phillips & Company in New York. Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (24 November 1849 – 29 October 1924) was an English playwright and author. She is best known for her children's stories, in particular Little Lord Fauntleroy (published in 1885-6), A Little Princess (1905), and The Secret Garden (1911). Among Howard Pyle's pupils, illustrator Jessie Willcox Smith was highly recognized. As one of the most well-liked and well-known artists in America, she developed into a skilled child-portraitist. The short story, "In the Closed Room" tells the tale of Judith, a quiet, reserved young girl who lives in a large city. She meets another little girl living in the house, and they become playmates when her parents are given the chance to look after a suburban home for the summer. One day, the girls find a mysterious locked room on the fourth floor while playing together. The book shows a light green cloth hardcover with gold gilt designs and lettering on the front and spine. The book features numerous colored illustrations throughout. It shows good condition overall with some slight wear present, but no signs of obvious damage are noted. The book measures 8 1/2" L x 5 6/8" W x 1" D and weighs 1 pound.*
