Featured in this lot is this 1891 edition of "Indian Horrors or Massacres by the Red Men", by Henry David Northrop, 1891, published by the National Publishing Company in Philadelphia. The book provides riveting narratives of various conflicts up through the Indian wars of the 1880's. There are numerous illustrations throughout, as well as images of Native Americans, such as Sitting Bull, Plenty Scalps, Standing Bear, and many more. The full title of the book is, "Indian Horrors or Massacres by the Red Men: Being a Thrilling Narrative of Bloody Wars with Merciless and Revengeful Savages, including a full account of the daring deeds and tragic death of the world-renowned chief, Sitting Bull with startling descriptions of fantastic ghost dances, mysterious medicine men; desperate Indian braves; scalping of helpless settlers; burning their homes, etc. etc. The whole comprising a fascinating history of the Indians from the Discovery of America to the present time; their manners, customs, modes of warfare, legends, etc." This black cloth bound stamped beautifully illustrated and gold gilt decorated hardcover is in nice condition, fading, scuffing on covers. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout and markings with pen in the first couple pages. No obvious signs of damage is noted. The book measures 7 5/8" L x 5 1/8" W x 1 1/4" D and weighs 1 pound and 4 ounces.
