Included in this lot is the First Edition of "Indian Summer Autumn Poems and Sketches" by L. Clarkson, 1881, Griffith and Farran, London publisher. Louise Clarkson Whitelock was both an author and illustrator, and published most of her works under the name L. Clarkson. She was a well-known children's author and illustrator most noted for her vibrant use of colour and details. She was an early pioneer of the Golden Age of Illustrations, Many of her publications are books of children’s verse, which she illustrated herself. This book includes 12 coloured flower plates and four tinted lithographic plates alongside poems by American poets including Whittier, Longfellow, Emerson and many others. This red cloth bound gold gilt embossed and stamped illustrated beveled hardcover is in nice condition, gold gilt is still bright, scuffing and staining noted. Gold gilt top, bottom and fore edge intact pages exhibit age tanning, loose spine. Measures 10"W x 12..75"L.5"D, weight 2lb, 12oz.
