Featured in this lot is a 1970s print by Irene A. Selonke titled, "Yakima Indian Chief". Irene A. Selonke (1910 - 1981) was known for illustration for handcraft publications, landscape and genre painting, Irene Selonke was born Sept. 10, 1910, and lived and worked in Johnson County, Kansas for much of her career. Her illustration work included Modern Handcraft Magazine, Workbasket Magazine and Workbench Magazine. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, Kansas City Art Institute and with Joseph Fleck in Taos, New Mexico and Olga Dormandi in Paris, France. Memberships included the National League of American Pen Women, which she served as state art chairman from 1971 to 1972. She died in July 1978, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. This print shows a Yakima (now Yakama) Chief wearing a large feather headdress with colors of yellow, black and white and a hide shirt with rawhide strands, as he looks off into the distance. The print is signed in red on the bottom right reading, "I. Selonke". The print is set on a solid wood board, acting as the frame. The print and frame are in good condition with some wear from their vintage age, but no obvious signs of damage. The print measures 19 3/4" L x 15 1/4" W. The entire piece measures 30" L x 24" W.*
