For your bidding pleasure in this lot is a 1937 pioneer/frontier/historic map of Montana. One side of the map shows the state of Montana with landmarks, sites, and historical events, including Yellowstone Park. The other side of the map shows a painting by C. M. Russell the seal of Montana's Statehood diamond jubilee (75 years) and territorial centennial (100 years). On the backside is also "A Tabloid History of Montana," from the time of the dinosaurs through the Cowboy times up to the time of the Mining boom. Irving Shope (1900-1977) was born in Boulder, Montana. At the age of 19 he started "Cowboying"; at the age of thirty he received a degree in fine arts from the University of Montana. In 1933, he began working as a commercial artist. The map is printed in black ink on a soft butter yellow, heavy paper. The map measures 22" x 16" and is folded into quarters with light wear along the edges and crease lines.
