Offered in this lot is an Iver Johnson Safety Automatic Hammerless second model double action revolver chambered in .38 caliber. This is a double-action top break revolver, similar in layout to the Smith and Wesson hinge frames of the 1860’s era. What made the Iver different from the Smiths was in the fact that it had an internal transfer bar safety. Prior to its patent in 1896, the ‘Hammer the Hammer’ action was revolutionary for handguns. Up until then, you risked an accidental discharge from a dropped revolver if the gun was carried with a hammer down on a loaded cylinder. The revolver features a 3 1/4" barrel, 5-shot break top cylinder, checkered hard rubber grip, blue’d finish, and internal hammer. The revolver is marked with its serial number on the bottom of the trigger guard. The revolver is in good condition overall, with a blue’d finish and good hard rubber grip. The finish shows a nice patina reflecting the firearms age. Mechanically, the action is tight and well timed. The firearm comes with extra mainsprings. Serial Number: J44343. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic Long Gun and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
