For your consideration is an Original J. F. Policky Bronze "Against The Current", Limited Edition. An Indian woman is seen sitting in a canoe and paddling through the bronze waters. She is wearing a fringed shirt/jacket visible on the details of both arms. There are two wrapped bundles in front of her lying on the floor of the high-hulled canoe. The canoe resembles the iconic, lightweight, and durable birch bark vessels of the Ojibwe, historically crafted from natural materials like cedar, spruce roots, and pine resin. These canoes were integral to transportation and trade, particularly for navigating the Great Lakes, and featured designs adapted to specific environments, such as high-ended hulls for seaworthiness. These designs continue to influence modern canoe building and are highly regarded as works of functional art that symbolize indigenous identity and environmental adaptation. J.F. Policky (b. 1955) is a recognized artist known high-action Western art, particularly horses and landscapes, for both oil paintings and bronze sculptures, with his works collected internationally. Growing up in the Nebraska Sandhills, he drew inspiration from ranch life and five years as a rodeo-circuit rider. Policky's limited edition works are highly sought after by Western art collectors. This stunning bronze is a limited edition, #7/20, noted on the title plaque attached to the rectangular wood base, non-skid felt pad on base. Measures 5.25"W x 8.375"L x 6.375"H, weight is 6lb, 12oz.
