Rabone construction with multi faceted spirit levels adorning the cast iron level and a single spirit level shown on the brass and hardwood level. J. Rabone & Sons originated in 1784 in birmingham as rule and tool makers. The business was continued by John Rabone and his (John's) grandson, Eric Rabone. It worked under the name of John Rabone and Sons c1784-1953, becoming a public company in 1948; 1871 The company moved to Hockley Abbey in Birmingham. The condition of this of these levels is good with with slight patina adorning both levels and some scratches to the brass plate mounted on top of the level.
