Featured in this lot is this large, beautiful wood and polymer based clay Kuskokwim Traditional Doll sculpture done by Jeanette Ramberg. Jeanette was born in the central Texas town of Stephenville and is descended from German and Native American ancestry. In 1990, she took a trip to Alaska where she was inspired by Alaska's immense natural beauty and rich Native heritage. She began crafting and perfecting the Eskimo / Inuit art and was famous for making Kuskokwim Traditional Dolls. The dolls are modeled after real people and are named after the person it looks like. The faces are made of a specially developed polymer based clay and wheat dough mixture. This medium is well suited for achieving natural looking facial features and skin tone. Insert glass eyes further enhance the doll's life-like appearance. The doll is constructed with a sturdy wire armature body, which allows the doll to assume many realistic positions and the body is constructed of rugged suede leather. The clothes the dolls wear are sewn by hand and feature high grade furs and quality fabrics. Parkas reflect authentic Native designs and feature detailed work. The doll is modeled after a woman and shows her sitting on a piece of wood wearing a parka, gloves and boots. She is wearing a beaded necklace and is holding a tool of some sort. She has long black hair that is in two braids sitting on the left and right side of her face. Under her parka in the back, the artist signature can be seen reading, "Jeanette Ramberg. The piece shows good condition overall with little wear and no signs of obvious damage. The piece measures 7 1/4" L x 11 1/8" W x 11" H and weighs 3 pounds and 8 ounces.
