For your consideration is a J. Widmer black powder percussion target rifle. The rifle utilizes a 31'' octagon barrel marked ''J. WIDMER”. The lock is also marked ''J. WIDMER''. This rifle shows lots of European flair and has full coverage relief scroll on the lock and hammer. The engraving is very nicely done with an animal face within the scroll on the hammer. The patent breech and barrel tang are also engraved in full coverage relief scroll. The stock furniture is fully engraved and of a high quality silver. The forend cap shows deeply sculpted floral. The side plate on the left is missing and the right shows more incredible scroll work. The condition of the rifle is poor with the barrel showing a pleasing mix of original brown finish and patina with a light vise impression on either side just ahead of breech. The back action island lock and barrel tang are an even brown patina and remain smooth and free of pitting with crisp engraving. The trigger guard is a fancy finger spur style giving a pistol grip to the gracefully shaped perch belly buttstock and the original adjustable double set triggers function properly. The stock is of walnut and is checkered at the wrist and rates excellent with lots of original finish remaining and with strong checkering. The stock shows a significant break at the grip. The wood-to-metal fit remains excellent. The rifle is sighted with a blade front, European style adjustable rear and a windage and elevation adjustable tang mounted peep sight. No Serial Number. Black powder firearms do not require a FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
