For sale in this lot is a hand crafted, custom saddle by Jack Connolly, one of three sons of renowned tack maker - John Connolly. The three Connolly sons (Jack, Andrew, and Pat) split with their father in 1907 to relocate to Butte, Montana, which was the start up location of the first Connolly Bros Harness Shop. In 1912, Jack and Pat moved on to Billings, where Jack was credited with expanding the business into saddle manufacture. In the year of the stock market crash, which led to the Great Depression in 1929, Jack moved himself to Livingston, Montana, where Jack Connolly Saddlery was formed. This is an earlier example of Jacks saddles, showing his "Jack Connolly - Livingston, MONT" stamp on the seat rise, and on the rear of the cantle. The saddle originates pre-patent, reading "PAT PEND" underneath each fender. The saddle is decorated with exceptional tooling, showing scalloped borders around all edges, and a primary border consisting of shell motif designs. The saddle is further accented by copper hardware, and double-stacked leather conchos. Overall, the saddle shows good condition, with rich, hydrated leather. The undercarriage does show some shedding, and the saddle displays patina indicative of age. This saddle is offered to us from the renowned Western collector, Bud Chapman, from Bozeman, Montana.
