Offered in this lot we have a Jacobean hand carved blanket chest originating from 1820- 1830. The Jacobean era refers to the period in English and Scottish history that coincides with the reign of James VI of Scotland (1567–1625), who also inherited the crown of England in 1603 as James I. The Jacobean era succeeds the Elizabethan era and precedes the Caroline era, and is often used for the distinctive styles of Jacobean architecture, visual arts, decorative arts, and literature which characterized that period. The chest features a wonderful hand carved stylized floral pattern across the front. It shows a large top opening blanket chest with a single divider in the center, as well as two small drawers across the bottom. The chest is in very good condition showing wear indicative of age. It measures 52 1/2" wide by 22" deep by 33 1/4" tall.
