This lot gives you the chance to bid on a James T. Irick custom saddle, crafted in Casper, Wyoming in the late 1920's to early 1930's. James was born on October 21, 1889 in Gainesville, Texas. By 1910, the family moved to Blackburn, Oklahoma, where his father, James T. SR, took up a career in saddle & harness manufacture. In 1911, the young James migrated West and took a job in Cheyenne, Wyoming with a harness and saddle maker - F. A. Meanea. Irick was a single man, and lived with another longtime employee of Meanea - James Hagar. Irick eventually left Meanea's shop, and took the trade north to Casper. James operated his own saddlery until the 1930's. This saddle is stamped with James's "J. T. Irick - Maker - Casper, WYO" mark behind the cantle, and on the seat rise. Additionally, the saddle uses a high cantle, and shows almost complete coverage with intricate tooling. The saddle shows good condition for age, though wear from use is evident. The saddle uses a 13" seat.
