Featured in this lot is this collection of ephemera related to gunfighter Jeff D. Milton born in 1861 and died in 1947, signed by Mildred (his wife) Jeff Milton: A Good Man with a Gun by J. Evetts Haley with an Excavated Bottle from Jeff Milton's outhouse and museum rendition photograph from John Kopek of Jeff Milton and were housed in the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The first item is a photograph gifted to the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum by John Kopec of a copy of his original photograph of Jeff Milton on horseback with a hillside behind him. John Kopec is a well known Colt firearms collector and authenticator and is a big name throughout the Old West Collector community. The second item is a signed copy of J.Evetts Haley's book called Jeff Milton: Good man with a Gun circa 1948 and includes a copy of a newspaper article pertaining to Jeff Melton from the Fork Herald Tribune and comes complete with an original museum tag that reads as follows: This book is signed by Mildred, Jeff Milton's wife. Proudly on display in loving memory of Heather Shindo 1967-2007. The last item is a pre-prohibition cobalt blue bottle that was EXCAVATED in Jeff Milton's outhouse. Jefferson Davis Milton (November 7, 1861 – May 7, 1947) was an American lawman in the Old West and a son of Confederate Governor of Florida John Milton. He was the first officer appointed to the U.S. Immigration Service Border Patrol in 1924. After serving with the Rangers for four years, he moved through west Texas and into New Mexico, where he became a Deputy US Marshal in 1884. Milton retired to Tombstone, Arizona, and then to Tucson, Arizona, where he lived the remainder of his life. Louis L'Amour wrote in his book Education of a Wandering Man that he met Milton, who bought him breakfast and gave him a ride to Tucson. “As for myself, I never killed a man who didn’t need killing, and I never shot an animal except for meat.”- Jeff Milton. The condition of this collection is well preserved with some slight wear to the books dust cover along with some blurring to the glass bottle consistent with age but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this collection ranges from 9 1/2" x 6 1/2" to 6 7/8" x 2 3/8" x 2 3/8". The collective weight of this collection is 2lb 14oz.
