This is an original John James Audubon American Badger Plate XLVII hand colored lithography, first edition. The piece is marked bottom left “Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S.F.L.S.”, bottom center “American Badger”, bottom right, “Litho. Printed & Col.’d by J.T. Bowen, Philada.”, top right, “Plate XLVII”, top left, “No. 10”. The piece is obviously hand colored / handcolored showing a rich vivid coloring and well preserved condition along with being professionally preserved and framed. This is a First Edition hand colored and printed example published in Philadelphia by J.T. Bowen in the mid-1800’s from The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North American published by J.T. Bowen and by JJ. Audubon between 1845 and 1848. Provenance: Form the Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Gallery of Bozeman collection. The measurements of this famed lithograph are 12" x 13 3/4" and the visible art measures 6" x 8".
