Featured in this lot is a carved sculpture called " Desert Winds," circa 2010 from Red Lodge, Montana, artist Joan Kosel. The carving shows a wonderfully and professionally crafted hardwood construction that was finished in tung oil to bring out the natural wood coloration. The carving features a young colt with its mane swaying in the wind with a catus behind it and sage brush bushes in front and to the rear of the horse. The plaque on the front of the carving reads as follows: "Desert Winds" - by Joan Kosel; and the bottom is marked as follows: Joan Kosel - #424 - 2010. The carving is accompanied by a cut out an article tapped to the bottom. Joan Kosel is a carver from Red Lodge, Montana that learned her crafted only from her father, and with time and practice is now loved by collectors from around the Great Basin. The condition of this wooden carving shows whiting to the carved sections of the sculpture but otherwise shows no obvious signs of damage and shows well preserved stature. The measurements of this carving are 11 3/4" x 11 3/4" x 10". The collective weight of this carving is 2lb 6oz.*
