For your consideration are two, first edition John L. Stoddard lecture books titled, "John L. Stoddard's Lectures – Volume IX - Scotland, England, London" (1898) and "John L. Stoddard’s Lectures – Supplementary Volume - Ireland (Two Lectures - Denmark, Sweden" (1901). Both were published by Balch Brothers Co., Boston and printed by Norwood Press, J.S. Cushing & Co., Berwick & Smith, Norwood, Massachusetts. These books capture Stoddard's captivating accounts of European history and geography, originally presented in a series of lectures delivered over 18 years. They are richly illustrated with photographs and engravings, offering an in depth view of these regions at the turn of the century. The books are bound in three-quarter red leather and feature marbling in the center. The spines show gold gilt lettering and small floral designs, with the bottom of the spines both reading, "Standard Edition". They both show good condition overall with wear present to the covers from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage noted. The interior pages show good condition with no wear noted. They measure 9 1/8" L x 6 1/4" W x 1" D and have a collective weight of 3 pounds and 10 ounces.
