Featured in this lot is this original oil on canvas "White Horse," by John Young-Hunter, born 1874 and passed 1955. The painting features very mild coloration with a light brown and white background; the horse really pops out at you with beautiful shading that eases into the white coloration of the horse wearing a halter with a lead rope attached. The artist's signature can be seen in the bottom right hand corner of the painting. John Young-Hunter is known for his lavish society portraits of wealthy Brits and Americans and for his Native American portraits and genre scenes of the Southwest. John Young-Hunter was born in Glasgow, Scotland to painter Colin Hunter and attended Clifton College and University of London, as well as attended the Royal Academy of Arts in London. John Young-Hunter had been fascinated with American Indians since attending Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show as a youth in London. In 1912, he met famed western painter Charles M. Russell, and the next year Young-Hunter left for the United States, visiting the Crow Indian Reservation. Subsequently, he was guest of Charles and Nancy Russell, who took him camping in Glacier. The condition of this oil on canvas is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this framed oil on canvas are 22 1/2" x 27" and the visible art measures 14 1/2" x 19".
