Provided for sale in this lot is a fine equestrian collectable in the form of a Johnson Halter, paper mache horse head trade sign, made by Old King Cole Paper Mache Company, of Canton, Ohio. The trade sign halter holder would have been displayed in a Montana Saddlery or Mercantile and dates to circa 1880-1900. The horse reads Johnson Halter on both sides, and shows remnants of the original Old King Cole tag on the back of the neck. The horse shows awesome definition, especially for the paper mache medium. Additionally, the horse shows an exceptional paint job. Overall, the head shows very-good condition. The head measures approximately 19 1/2" deep from the mounting surface, 20" tall, and 6" wide. This is believed to be the finest example offered for sale with an excellent professional paint job and wonderful condition.
