In this lot is an original comic panel by J. R Williams, c. 1930. James Robert Williams (March 30, 1888 – June 17, 1957) was a Canadian cartoonist. He was best known for his long-run daily syndicated panel, “Out Our Way”. “Out Our Way” first appeared in newspapers on March 20, 1922. The single-panel series introduced a variety of characters. This framed piece is from his "Heroes Are Made- Not Born". The scene is two women calling to a young boy on the other side of a sticker bush to come "tramp these bushes down, so we don’t get our stockings full of runners." The young boy, covered in stickers, is arguing/explaining that "Righ Peepul have servants an' poor peepul have boys". This scene is signed in the lower right corner and dated 4-16. In the lower right corner, next to the date, is a strip of paper that reads “(C) 1930 by NEA Service, Inc.”, meaning this scene was sold for publication. The scene is professionally matted and framed with a gold frame. There is some foxing to the original paper, but that and the faint pencil sketch marks (made pre "inking" the work) only add to the authenticity and uniqueness of this piece. The visible art measures 12" X 12" and in the frame measures 19" X 19".
