Featured in this lot is a bronze sculpture called "Owl," and was crafted by Jules Meigniez who was born in 1835 and died in 1895. The sculpture features a wonderfully and professionally crafted bronze construction that shows a owl casting out into the sky and a stump in the foliage decorated base. The base is marked "J Moigniez" and shows a plaque on the marble base as follows: Owl - Jules Moigniez (28 May 1835 – 29 May 1894) was a French animalier sculptor who worked during the 19th century. His output was primarily cast in bronze and he frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. He was best known for his bronzes depicting birds, although his skill and versatility enabled him to produce quality horse sculptures (primarily racehorses), dog sculptures and hunting scenes. His bird sculptures were among the finest ever created in his time. The condition of this bronze sculpture is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition.
