Featured in this lot is a beaded Monkey Pod Wood bowl from Sioux artist, Kathleen Kills Thunder. The serving bowl features a wonderfully and professionally crafted Monkey Pod Wood and beaded construction that shows a lid and flared lip and is highly beaded and decorated design that shows beads expertly arrange to form bands of traditional decoration of geometric patterns and shows trade cloth attached tot he neck of the bowl with mother of pearl set into the flared lip. The piece was made by Kathleen Kills Thunder (her legal name) and was born in 1947 in Seattle Washington. Her father, Ben Kills Thunder was a Sioux Indian from the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Northeast Montana. Her mother was Spanish / Irish. Kathy grew up shuttling back and forth between Seattle and the Colville Indian Reservation in Northeast Washington. Kathy has been painting and beading since she was six. She uses a bright color-palette and prodigious imagination in creating her painted and beaded work. Kathy currently lives in Southeast Arizona and raises buffalo when she is not pursuing her artistic endeavors. The condition of this decorated wood serving bowl is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition.
