Featured in this lot is this hand woven beaded place mat from Sioux artist Kathleen Kills Thunder. The place mat is hand woven wicker construction that features a central beaded medallion that shows geometric patterns adorning the medallion and includes colors such as chalk white, medium blue, yellow, orange, medium red, dark red, black, translucent light blue, translucent yellow, and light pink. The piece was made by Kathleen Kills Thunder (her legal name) and was born in 1947 in Seattle Washington. Her father, Ben Kills thunder was a Sioux Indian from the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Northeast Montana. Her mother was Spanish / Irish. Kathy grew up shuttling back and forth between Seattle and the Colville Indian Reservation in Northeast Washington. Kathy has been painting and beading since she was six. She uses a bright color-palette and prodigious imagination in creating her painted and beaded work. Kathy currently lives in Southeast Arizona and raises buffalo when she is not pursuing her artistic endeavors. The condition of this hand woven place mat is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this place mat is 15 1/2" x 15 1/2".
