Featured in this lot is this Kealakekua Hawaiian obsidian, coral, and shell artifacts. There are two shells, one peace of coral, and a obsidian artifact in this collection. The two shells are natural one is rough while the other smooth and spotted like leopard spots. There are two netting awls used to tie nets together. The rough piece of coral is natural and is rough on all planes. The artifact made from obsidian is thought to be a chisel and is marked with a misspelling of Kealakekua. The condition of this collection of artifacts is well preserved with no obvious signs of tampering or damage; the chisel shows some chipping but it looks natural or very old. The measurements of the items in this collection range from 2 3/8" x 7/8" x 1/2" to 3 1/2" x 1 5/8" x 3/4". Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection. Owen David Mort was an American engineer who amassed an impressive collection throughout his worldwide travels. His collection has included art, artifacts and other historical items from which he has donated to museums at the University of Utah and the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame, including African, Afghan and Asian artifacts. The collective weight of this collection is U6Oz.
