For your consideration is this framed print of Ken Baxter's original painting titled, "Embarkation of the Saints" done in 1978. Kenneth Bischoff Baxter was born in San Diego, California, in 1944. Baxter got a BFA from the University of Utah, where he was mentored by portraitist Alvin Gittins and landscape artist Frank Ericson. He later received his MFA from Utah State University. Baxter began his professional career as a classic realist, best known for his paintings of historic restorations of downtown Salt Lake City. This print shows the embarkation of the Saints at Liverpool in 1851, where members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) made repeated sea excursions from ports such as Liverpool, England, to America, notably New Orleans, across the Atlantic Ocean. The Perpetual Emigrating Fund sponsored these voyages by lending money to impoverished Saints, allowing them to emigrate and join the larger body of the Church in the United States. This piece is beautifully framed and features a small write-up below the print telling the reader about the embarkation and where the original painting is located. It is doubled matted and set in a beautiful wood frame. The visible art measures 13" L x 17 1/2" W, while the entire piece measures 25" L x 28 5/8" W x 7/8" D. It has a total weight of 8 pounds and 2 ounces.
