Offered in this lot are two Indian Peace Medals on trade bead necklaces. The first is a King George II medal stamped 1757. This medal is struck in a brass tone and measures 50mm. The face side shows King GeorgeII in roman style armour. The legend reads GEORGIUS II DEI GRATIA (GEORGE II BY THE GRACE OF GOD) The reverse of this medal is described as 'a Quaker sitting by a fire offering a peace pipe to a Native American' LET US LOOK TO THE MOST HIGH WHO BLESSED OUR FATHERS WITH PEACE in an encircling legend. The medal was engraved by Edward Duffield from Philadelphia. The medal is also know as the 'Treaty of Easton Medal'. The dies held by Richardson were eventually transferred to the U.S. Mint as early as 1800, according to R.W. Julian, where examples were re struck in various metals. This medal is hung on a 31" trade bead necklace made of red-white heart, blue-white heart, and blue and white striped square sand cast beads on a leather thong. The next medal is a C. 1960 George Washington 1789 peace and friendship medal. The face bust is by Pierre Simon Duvivier. The reverse is two hands shaking over an axe and peace pipe by John Reich. This re-strike was Issued by the US mint and measures 76mm. This medal is hung on a (broken) necklace of sand cast trade beads in greasy yellow, blue and brown and white striped. These two peace medallions and trade beads made a wonderful display.
