The lot features an excellent Buffalo Hunt Pictorial Painted and Geometric Pinwheel painted hide from Kiowa Native American Indian artist, Dau-Law-Taine. Darwin Tsoodle Kiowa (Dau-Law-Taine) is an Native American artist born in Anadarko, Oklahoma and is known for his depictions of Native American Braves on horseback. The piece is signed lower right, “Daw-Law-Taine Kiowa”. The top shows four running Buffalo Bison figures with two Indians on horseback chasing, below shows the five layer yellow and red pinwheel geometric figure. At the base shows three coup Chief’s on horseback with headdress being approached by three warriors, showing shields, headdress, war bonnets, coup staffs, lance spontoons and more. At the far left shows four tipis being painted elaborately. The piece is on a suede matte board in a wood frame under glass. Overall the piece exhibits a fine craftsmanship and true ledger art appeal of old from a renowned Kiowa artist. The frame measures 43"W x 50"H.
