For your consideration is this First Edition of “Kit Carson the Happy Warrior of the Old West” by Stanley Vestal, 1928, Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston and New York publishers. A classic biography of this important character in the American West. Christopher Houston Carson became a frontier legend in his own lifetime through biographies and news articles; exaggerated versions of his exploits were the subject of dime novels. This book understands and presents the Old West, those fleeting decades of unimaginable vigor and energy and almost unimaginable adventure. Fur trapper, wilderness guide, Indian fighter, scout, Civil War general, Indian agent, a well-written account by a popular and knowledgeable author. Stanley Vestal (1887-1957) was an American writer, poet, biographer, and historian, perhaps best known for his books on the American Old West, including "Sitting Bull, Champion of the Sioux. " The tan cloth bound gold gilt stamped hardcover is in nice condition, gold gilt titling on spine slightly fading. Intact top edge painted pages exhibit slight age tanning, "Map of the Old West" on both front and rear endpapers. Measures 5.75"W x 8.25"L x 1.25"D, weight 1lb, 4oz.
