This is an 1881 edition of "Pioneer Life and Frontier Adventures" by Dewitt C. Peters, with over sixty (60) illustrations. The book chronicles the life and adventures of Kit Carson and his contemporaries. "Pioneer Life and Frontier Adventures, an authentic record of the romantic life and daring exploits of Kit Carson And His Companions From His Own Narrative By Dewitt C. Peters Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel and Surgeon U. S. A. Publisher Estes And Lauriat Boston 1881." Christopher Houston Carson was an American frontiersman; a fur trapper, wilderness guide, Indian agent, and U.S. Army officer. He became a frontier legend in his own lifetime by biographies and news articles, and exaggerated versions of his exploits were the subject of dime novels. His understated nature belied confirmed reports of his fearlessness, combat skills, tenacity, and profound effect on the westward expansion of the United States. Although he was famous for much of his life, historians in later years have written that Kit Carson did not like, want, or even fully understand the fame that he experienced during his life. DeWitt Clinton Peters (1829-1876) was a surgeon in the US Army during the 19th Century. He saw service in both the American Civil War and the Indian Wars.
