Featured in this lot is this Kwakwaka'wakw Pacific Northwest Coast totem. The totem features a decoration of a thunderbird with naturally painted design with traditional decoration to the thunderbird. Thunderbirds, in Native American mythology, a powerful spirit in the form of a bird. By its work, the earth was watered and vegetation grew. Lightning was believed to flash from its beak, and the beating of its wings was thought to represent the rolling of thunder. The condition of this totem is good with a naturally occurring fissure to the left side of the face of the totem and between the legs of the totem but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this totem is 48 1/2" x 13" x 15".
