The lot features a fully beaded cradle board papoose attributed to the Lakota Sioux Native American Indians of the 1900’s. The piece dates to circa 1900-1970’s and shows an old wool trade cloth, canvas, and wood construction, which is beautifully covered in glass trade pony beads in a geometric and pictorial pattern. The piece shows a nice large size, possibly the largest we have offered, with a thick, solid wood frame that is adorned with large, hammered brass covered metal furniture tacks. The entire surface of the papoose cradle board is covered in glass pony trade beads, with one side showing a black running horse and turquoise running horse with a warrior rider; the top is a solid maroon coloring and the side shows a geometric pattern in red, corn yellow, black, greasy white, and semi-transparent green. The front flaps are held together with Indian tanned hide buckskin. The piece shows sinew and thread sewing and is overall in good condition and presents well, displaying little to no bead loss. Overall, the papoose measures 35.75”L by 10.5”W by 9”D.
