The lot features a terrific 19th Century catlinite peace pipe bowl and hand-carved twist stem attributed to the Lakota Sioux. The circa 1880-1890 piece features a catlinite pipestone elbow-shaped pipe bowl having a thick and hearty octagonal construction and is accented by artful pewter silver inlays. At the side shows a patch of orange-pink colored catlinite showing through, a unique addition. The stem shows a sumac wood construction with intricate hand carved twisted design. This is the most intricate and well-crafted twist stem pipe we have ever offered for sale. Provenance: The piece was reportedly acquired at the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota and later purchased by Ted and Lilly Jarvis for their personal collection from Mike Kokin of Sherwood’s Spirit of America at Santa Fe. This is truly an artist and wonderfully historic late Indian Wars early Reservation period pipe. The pipe measures 4”L x 3”H. The stem measures 23.5”L and together the set is 25.5”L overall.
