The lot features an exceptional hand carved solid wood and hand painted Cigar Store Indian sculpture with nice vintage age. Historically, these carvings would be placed outside of tobacco outlets, signifying to passerby's that the establishment sold tobacco products. This solid wood carved mercantile Cigar Store Indian displays a patriotically painted Native American Warrior adorned with a full headdress traditionally known as a trailer war bonnet, accent fringed leggings and shirt, moccasins, a breastplate and gorget. War bonnets were traditionally worn by male leaders of the tribe who have earned great respect. Originally, a full headdress would have been worn into battle but now, they are used primarily for ceremonial purposes. This unique item displays excellent condition and measures 83" x 24" x 18". One of the larger examples we have offered for sale.
